Christian Marriage Advice: Is My Wife Really Saved?
by Marc
(USA)
Question: My wife was not brought up in the word. She was baptized two years ago. She constantly threatens divorce and says its OK because every one does it. She believes she is a christian but when I ask her to refer to the bible for reference she refuses. Is she really a christian?"
Answer: Believe it or not, there are plenty of Christians who call themselves "Christians" but do not know the Word of God. It doesn't mean they're not saved, it just means they're ignorant of the Word.
Your question is a valid one, but only God knows the heart of man. the Bible tells us that we will be able to recognize those who belong to Him by their fruit. Another way of saying that is, you'll recognize them by their deeds.
Your wife may very well be saved but is still a "babe" in Christ lacking spiritual maturity. We recommend the TWO of you begin attending a local Bible study on a regular basis so that you can grow together in Christ. The Bible says that we should study to show ourselves approved unto God. Bible study is a necessary part of our spiritual development.
As the spiritually mature one, you will need to take the lead in this area.
Also, sit down with your wife and share our website with her. Print out the Bible studies on our site and go over them together.
Finally, make sure you are praying for your wife daily. Pray that God would give her a hunger for His word. Pray that she would come to know Christ in a personal way.
