For Better or Adultery

When you stood at the alter and promised "for better or worse", perhaps you imagined "worse" as an occasional heated argument, or maybe stumbling into hard financial times. You had no idea "worse" would lead you through the valley of infidelity.

Now here you are. You must choose between surviving an affair and surviving divorce. Should I stay or should I leave? Both are valid questions my friend. But I'm writing this to let you know that you can survive infidelity.

Although, your natural fight of flight reflex tells you to flee, fighting for your marriage is a better option.

Yes, infidelity is the most painful offense a spouse can commit against the other. It is considered the highest level of betrayal physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

But remember, the God in whom you trust is well able to heal you on every level. His power has no restrictions in your life.

As you consider whether you should stay or leave, consider the oath you made on your wedding day in the presence of God. Also remember that marriage is symbolic of the relationship Christ has with the church.

Who's the church? You and me are the church. And His relationship with us is one that is unconditional. He never turns His back on us, even when we betray Him He is always willing to take us back. His love is not contingent upon our behavior.

And fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how you choose to see it, His expectation is that you would show your spouse the same kind of love and forgiveness that He shows you.

Am I condoning the sexual indiscretions of your spouse? No, what they did was inexcusable. Meaning there is absolutely no excuse that could justify their decision. But, what they did is not unforgivable; not by Christ and therefore not by you. Even if you decide to leave, you still have to forgive if you want Christ to forgive you.
