6 Christian Marriage Tips

Christian Marriage Tips 1 - 3

1. When it comes to your spiritual life, Praying Together is one of the most intimate moments you can share with your spouse. Not only is it an act of intimacy, it is also very powerful. Matthew 18:19 says, "Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven."

Wanda and I pray every evening before going to bed. We thank God for the days events; we pray over our children; we pray for protection through the night; we even pray about our hopes and dreams for the future. This simple act draws us closer to one another and closer to the Lord. Not only that, but we now have several Christian testimonies about answered prayers.

2. There was a brief period in our marriage when we attended two separate churches because we disagreed about where we should worship. Boy, was that a huge lesson learned. That turned out to be one of the most difficult times in our relationship. We didn't realize how important Worshipping Together was until we found ourselves worshipping apart. Eventually, the Holy Spirit began to work on our hearts and brought us back together in one place of worship. Instantly, peace was restored in our home.

3. Psalm 37:30 says, "The Godly offer good counsel; they know what is right from wrong." If you feel that your marriage is being stretched to the breaking point, you must have the wherewithal to seek unbiased Godly Counsel rather than soliciting marriage advice from family and friends. You must be able to recognize when your marriage needs Christian marriage counseling versus Christian marriage tips. You must be brave enough to get the help you need before it ends up being too late. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be to repair the damage later.

4. Proverbs 17:22 says, "a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength." Laughing Together came easy when we were dating. But after marriage, life took a toll on us and laughing became a thing of the past. Unfortunately, when the laughter stopped, the enthusiasm we had about our relationship also dwindled. So, we made a decision. We decided to start having fun again, and you must do the same. Be intentional about it by planning a game night, a night of joke telling, or an evening of watching your favorite comedy shows. What you do is not important, just make a decision to do something to revive the laughter in your marriage.

5. We try to Fellowship with other Christian couples once a month. We have found that spending time with other couples who share the same values and beliefs always refreshes us. There's never a shortage of laughter, and we often walk away having learned something new. It can also be comforting when you discover other couples have experienced the same struggles as you and survived them. Hebrews 10:25 instructs us not to neglect meeting together so that we may encourage one another.

6. We learned early on that Forgiveness was a must if our marriage was going to survive. After all, neither of us is perfect, so what right does either of us have to withhold forgiveness from the other person? No right at all. Especially once we really understood the grace and forgiveness that was extended to us by Christ Jesus. Because of the forgiveness we have received, God commands us to forgive others. That is, if we want our sins to be forgiven. (See Colossians 3:13)
