I Disagree with My Husband's Decision

by Renne
(Nederland)

Question: My husband and I have been married for 2 years in the church and traditionally but not legally. My problem is that he has refuse to let me use our house as my address because of the financial influence it will have from taxes.

Answer: Hello Renne. Thank you for sharing your question. However, we are not exactly sure what you mean by married 'traditionally' in the church but not 'legally'. By our estimation, there is only one way to be married and that is to be legally recognized by the law as husband and wife. We do not believe in common law marriage. That is, a couple is considered to be married after living together for a certain period of time. Again, we are not sure what your situation is.

If the two of you were legally married perhaps than your husband would agree to allow you to use the home address (???).

Now, let's assume your marriage is legal in the eyes of God and man. In this case, the husband is the head of the wife. So, whether you agree with his decision or not, you as the wife must follow his decision. Your position would be a position of prayer.
