![]() Length of Christian Engagement
by Justin
Question: Length of Christian Engagement. We are realizing that the wedding we want may be too expensive for us and we need to save before planning the wedding. Does the Bible suggest an appropriate time to remain engaged or suggest a time that may be too long? Answer: The Bible does not give instructions or suggestions for how long an engagement should be. The only warning it gives is not to have sex before marriage. It says you should get married if you are unable to contain your sexual desires. Although the Bible does not give instructions for the length of an engagement, the average time is 12 -18 months. But remember, this is just an average. Our opinion is to place more value on the "marriage" than on the wedding. One thing we would suggest is that the two of you consider placing your money in an appreciating asset such as purchasing a new home, or investing it for your future. Weddings should be both memorable and beautiful. But speaking from a practical stand point, a small cozy wedding can be just as memorable and beautiful. But ultimately, it's up to you and what you deem to be more important. Congratulations on your engagement!!! Thank you for visiting our website. With Christ's Love, Mike and Wanda |
