Transforming Your Christian Finances
Marriage and Money
Instructions to Live By
Some Couples get married with the mistaken idea that there's an invisible line separating his from hers. This kind of separatism can cause a host of marriage and money problems.
Regarding money in Christian marriage, there is no such thing as mine and yours. It's not my money, or your money, but rather our money. Likewise, it's not my debt, or your debt, but our debt.
There's a well known scripture in Genesis that says "the two shall become one". Well, although this text is referring to sexual intimacy, the principle of "oneness" is one that you should liberally apply to your money and marriage.
Does that mean we should have joint bank accounts or separate accounts? Well, why not have both? That is, have a joint account for paying bills and separate accounts for personal spending.
The most important thing is that you come together as one when making financial decisions. Money in Christian marriage is about oneness.
But who should be responsible for managing the money and paying bills, the husband or the wife? The wise solution is to allow the person who has the maturity, knowledge, and skill manage the finances.
Listen, there's no rule book governing money and marriage, so do what works best for the two of you. The most important thing is that you are both in agreement.
However, there are principles of Christian finances you will need to put into place to secure your financial future; like creating other streams of income, tithing, budgeting, and a few more essentials we'll share.
