My Husband Left Me

Question: My Husband Left Me. My husband and I were in our second marriage. We got married when we were both 49 years old. The marriage only lasted 4 1/2 years. He has emotional issues (bi polar) that caused us to have difficulty communicating. He left last October and bought his own home after we had an argument. I was in shock. We had started to talk to figure out things, but he left just the same. The thing is, he still says that he loves me but that it will not work. He is already in a rebound relationship but yet when he does spend a little time with me, he hugs me and kisses me passionately....(no sex) and says how wonderful it is to be with me. I did ALLL the wrong things in the beginning of the separation ( and STILL doing stupid things!) that led to a final divorce March 25th. Panic, Fear, Anger, Frustration, Blame, Saying sorry...all the WRONG things, Instead of prayer and being QUIET. Is there any hope that if there is love still on both sides, and if this relationship he is in is a REBOUND....Have you heard of people coming back together with this type of situation?? I am in so much pain and I STILL love him so much. There ARE TWO of him, no doubt, but the GOOD person is so wonderful. I need to focus on THAT...which I did not do the first time around. I did not seek the Lords help and that is the MAIN problem. He and I BOTH needed the Lord MORE in our lives. I just don't know if I should let go or still hold on to hoping he will return someday.

Answer: Hello dear sister. We are sad to here of the break-up of your marriage. But it is good that you are now able to look back and see what you could have done differently, e.g., focusing more on Christ. There is nothing wrong with holding onto hope that the two of you will be reconciled. After all, God can do ANYTHING.

You asked if we have seen couples reconcile in situations like yours. The answer is yes. We have seen couples divorce but later come back together and remarry. Each case is as unique as each couple is. And no one can say how long such a process will take or if it will take place. But there are things that you should do in the mean time to increase your chances of reconciliation. One of those things is stopping all communication with your spouse if he is involved with someone else. This is hard for most people but believe it or not it's the best thing to do if you want to save the relationship. In addition to that, there are several things you should do that will prepare you for reconciliation and strengthen you spiritually. All of these things are outlined in our book, The Prodigal Spouse, we highly recommend you invest in yourself and your future by getting this book. It will tell you exactly what to do, so that you don't do, in your words, "stupid things". In short, it will definitely bless you! Stay encouraged and continue looking to the Lord. He will direct your path.
