Seeking God and serving during financial crisis. My name is Mike and my wife's name is Jill. We have been married almost seven years, our second marriage. Over two years ago I lost my job of almost fifteen years. Since that time we've struggled mightily in financial ways. Even though it has been hard we have diligently and most of the time joyfully sought the Lord and his will for our lives. We wanted to serve but did not know in what capacity. About eighteen months ago God made it very clear he was going to use us in marriage ministry. Of course like many we felt that we were poorly qualified, unworthy. Anyway, the Lord put Gary Thomas' book "Sacred Marriage" in front of us and since then we have facilitated a number of classes, spoke at other local churches, and put on marriage workshops. In the midst of all of that our financial situation continues to get bleaker and bleaker. We have not paid a house payment in nine months and of course are behind in all the other obligations. We have been able to find part time work here and there but nothing that pays the bills. We have gone through our savings and sold everything possible. We have seen God's goodness through other Christians and that has been amazing. We know God is in control and is building perseverance and greater trust and faith in us. We ask for prayer regarding our financial situation but even more so that we will not get discouraged and ever doubt the Lord. That we will trust he is preparing us for something greater.
