Help With Self Forgiveness![]() A discussion about forgiving yourself
Is self forgiveness difficult for you? Do you replay your mistakes over and over in your head and mentally scold yourself for ever having made such
a mistake in the first place?
Well, untie yourself my friend. God does not expect you to be perfect here on earth. So why place such a high expectation on yourself?
While you are a follower of Christ, you have not yet been transformed into His perfect image.
You are still mortal and therefore you are going to
make mistakes.
"Yeah, but you have no idea what I did, or how bad it was."
Honestly, it doesn't matter. You must embrace self forgiveness.
Listen, even the first followers of Christ, the twelve disciples, made mistakes.
These were men who literally walked and talked with Jesus daily. They broke bread with Him, prayed with Him, and sat under His teachings for three years.
Yet, they didn't always do the right thing or respond in the best way.
But guess what? It's okay.
It would be unreasonable for you to think you could make it through your lifetime without disappointing yourself or offending others from time to time.
But the good news is that the Holy Spirit is working in you daily to transform you into the image of God. Hallelujah!
So stop beating up on yourself and start forgiving yourself; God is not through with you yet.
God knew everything you were going to do before you were even born. Remember, He is all-knowing.
And because He is all-knowing, there is nothing you could possibly do that would ever come as a surprise to Him.
More importantly, there's nothing you could do
that would ever separate you from His love, Romans 8:38-39.
The Bible declares that He ( referring to God) who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Christ, Philippians 1:6.
That means God will never give up on you. The work that He has begun in you will be completed! Glory to God!
Okay, now say this prayer , "Father in heaven I ask you to forgive me for (fill in the blank). I know that my behavior was not pleasing to you and
for that I am deeply sorry.
But you said in your word that if I confess my sins, you are faithful and just to forgive me. So thank you for forgiving me.
I also thank you for delivering me from the guilt and shame I've been feeling about (fill in the blank). I release all of this over to you now in the name of Jesus.
I declare today that I am no longer bound by this situation. You do not condemn me and I will no longer condemn myself.
I am free by the power of God! And whom the son sets free is truly free indeed, John 8:36.
