What Does the Word of God Say?

The Facts about Anal Sex and the Bible

The Word of God does not prohibit anal sex. But does that mean anal sex is okay for married couples?

Did God give us anal sex so that single Christians saving themselves for marriage could be successful?

Well, let's do something many Christians have not done; let's discuss anal sex and the Bible openly and in much detail.

Question: Is anal sex a sin?

Answer: Until recently, we didn't think it was, but now we believe otherwise.

Question: Are there any scriptures that specifically mention anal sex?

Answer: There are no scriptures that discuss anal sex but that doesn't mean it's okay. Some christians have misused the scriptures to support having anal sex. Here are a few of those scriptures that have been misinterpreted:

Anal Sex and the Bible: Misinterpreted Scriptures

Lamentations 2:10 reads, " The elders of the daughter of Zion sit on the ground and keep silence; they throw dust on their heads and gird themselves with sackcloth. The virgins of Jerusalem bow their heads to the ground."

Some Christians have erroneously said that the virgins in this text are demonstrating how virgins should position themselves to receive anal sex. However, this text has nothing to do with anal sex or any other kind of sex. The book of Lamentations is a poetic book that consists soley of laments. What are laments?

The Hebrew translation of the word "lament" means to mourn, to wail, and in some cases it means to tear your clothing and pull out your hair. The entire book of Lamentations describes the overwhelming sorrow and loss felt by the people following the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple.

Just as wearing sackcloth and throwing dust (dirt) on your head was a sign of mourning in Biblical times, the virgins bowing their heads to the ground was a demonstration of utter sadness and sorrow.

The commentary of the Parallel Study Bible says that the virgins were not only sad because of the destruction of Jerusalem but also because they had lost their hope of marrying and having a family in the future.

Jeremiah 49:3-4 reads, "Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is plundered! Cry, you daughters of Rabbah, gird yourself with sackcloth! Lament and run to and fro by the walls; for Milcom shall go into captivity with his priests and his princes together. Why do you boast in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? Who trusted in her treasures, saying who will come against me?"

The book of Jeremiah is dedicated to his commission of announcing God's coming Judgement. This entire chapter was written about Ammon which was east of the Jordan and north of Moab. Heshbon was at one time possessed by the Ammonites. "Valleys...your flowing valley" is likely a reference to the Jabbok valley on the northern border of Ammon. There is nothing sexual about this text what so ever.

Anal Sex and the Bible: Biblical Reasons Not to Have Anal Sex

1 Corinthians 6:16 says this, "Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore honor God with your body."

Romans 12:1 says, "Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spiritual act of worship."

So, the Bible says that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It also says that you are to present your body as a living sacrifice unto God, holy and acceptable."

Although these scriptures do not speak of anal sex, they do tell you that your body (if you are born-again) belongs to God, and is the temple of God.

His expectation is that you present your body to Him holy and acceptable as an act of worship.

In our opinion, anytime you do ANYTHING to your body that purposely injures, or puts it at risk you are not honoring God.

Neither are you presenting your body holy and acceptable as an act of spiritual worship.

Think about it for a minute.

Medical Reasons Not to Have Have Anal Sex

  • Anal sex can lead to stretching and tearing of the anal canal which leads to anal fistulas, perirectal abscesses, and anal fissures.
  • After engaging in anal sex there is a risk of contracting vaginal bacterial infections, bladder infections, and kidney infections.
  • Because the sphincter muscle was not created by God to dilate continuously like the vagina, forced dilation can lead to future incontinence. Which simply means you lose the ability to hold your bowels. If this happens, surgery will be required.
  • Studies have revealed that the person receiving anal sex often experiences unexpressed feelings of shame, and embarrassment which can lead to depression.

Listen, as Christians and heterosexuals we are quick to tell homosexuals that if God wanted men to be with men or women to be with women, He would have made it possible for them to procreate.

In addition, we tell homosexuals that God would have also made the act of anal sex healthy and natural.

But the same logic must be applied to anal sex in marriage. Otherwise, you're being hypocritical.

If God wanted married couples to have anal sex, He would have made procreation possible through this method of intercourse. He also would have made the act healthy and natural.

Prayerfully, you understand our position Biblically and medically. Sex and marriage should always be God honoring.

So, Honor God by honoring your body!

Take care of your body and don't do ANYTHING that would put your body at risk.

Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit!
