Who Should I Talk to About My Marriage

Question: Who should I talk to about my marriage? I need to talk to someone about my marriage unhappiness but I do not want to put my husband down to any of our mutual friends or to our pastor or any relatives. Who is appropriate to talk to? I cannot afford a therapist.

Answer: Hi Amie! Thank you for sharing your question. Your decision not to talk with friends or family about your marriage problems is a wise decision. However, we don't understand your apprehension about speaking with your pastor. Your pastor is your spiritual shepherd and is there to provide such guidance and counsel. Pastoral counseling is actually a very good option for you. Outside of that, many employers offer counseling services to their employees through EAP (Employees Assistance Program). However, the counseling offered through EAP would not be Christian.
